Following the footsteps of Amy Schumer and other funny celebs who spent quarantine conquering the kitchen, Selena Gomez just launched a new cooking series called "Selena + Chef" on HBO Max.
The show spotlights the actress-singer as she cooks along with several celebrity chefs, including stars from LA’s Italian restaurant scene. James Beard Award winner chef Nancy Silverton of Osteria Mozza, the founders of Jon & Vinny’s pizzeria, and chef-owner Antonia Lofaso from Scopa Italian Roots restaurant all make an appearance.
Before the series premiered last week, Selena prepped fans on Instagram.
“It’s here,” she wrote. “See how my cooking holds up when 10 chefs teach me their recipes.” (She added a face palm emoji hinting at a few recipe mix-ups.)
Since learning on screen has become the new normal, watching Selena chop off the head of an octopus and tackle recipes via video call feels strangely comforting. For the first episode, Selena invited the chef-owner Daniel Holzman of NYC’s Meatball Shop to teach a few tricks.
