The classic dessert after a nice cook-out is usually some version of fruit salad or ice cream. But while the grill is still hot, why not make the most of it and prepare some delicious grilled desserts? The results are sure to astound!
Grilled fruit
To change it up a little with the usual fruit salad, try grilled fruit! Just skewer some fruit to taste on metal or wooden sticks. Then make a sauce with two tablespoons honey, a teaspoon of lemon juice, cinnamon and vanilla. Brush the skewers with the sauce and grill on each side.
Watermelon is also very well-suited to grilling: Just cut it into small triangles (about four to five centimeters wide) and cook for five minutes on each side. Serve the watermelon with yogurt mixed with honey, cinnamon mint and chopped pistachios. To grill peaches for dessert, just slice them in half and remove the pit. Cover them with brown sugar and grill with rosemary. Grilled peaches are even more delicious served with whipped mascarpone cheese and honey. The peaches are half-open, pitted, browned in brown sugar and then grilled with rosemary. They are delicious with whipped mascarpone cheese and honey. And the same goes for grapefruit, too: Just replace the rosemary with cinnamon.
When it comes to grilled desserts, pineapple is a great classic. Marinate some slices of pineapple with rum and brown sugar for at least 15 minutes. Then grill them, one or two minutes per side. Serve the pineapple with ricotta cheese, honey and fresh mint. Garnish with coconut flakes.
Grilled desserts: Don’t forget the chocolate!
S’mores are the grilled dessert par excellence – a slightly salty graham cracker or cookie with marshmallows and chocolate. Just like the movies! For an Italian version, use a piadina (or a tortilla): Stuff these with chocolate, hazelnut spread and marshmallows. Roll the piadina in aluminum foil and grill.
For a gluten-free version, use a banana instead: Peel it, transfer it to the aluminum and cut it in half lengthwise – so that it forms a small boat. Stuff it with the other ingredients, close with foil and grill!
Bruschetta and pizza for true gourmets
These two grilled desserts may be a little unusual, but they’re sure to win you over after the very first bite. The first is grilled bread and banana bruschetta. Grill the bread and the banana once ready, spread chocolate and hazelnut cream on top. Finish with grated coconut and grilled banana slices.
The second recipe – for grilled dessert pizza – is just as delicious, but a little more challenging. Using a pizza dough, make the usual disks for the pizza base. Grill them on both sides for a few minutes and then top with a spoonful of sweetened ricotta cheese with honey or sugar, dark chocolate chips and pitted fresh cherries. Continue grilling until the chocolate has melted.
The super quick version of grilled dessert
Sweets like pound cake, sponge cake or pan brioche can be sliced and grilled. Serve with ice cream, grilled fruit (pineapple, peaches and apricots work particularly well), yogurt or mascarpone and berries for an excellent last-minute grilled dessert.
