What do you say in Italy when you raise your glass for a toast? Cin cin or Alla salute. While the second expression is instantly attributable to a wish for long life, we need to go further back in time to understand the meaning of the first expression, specifically to the Victorian era, when British sailors adopted the saying from China then spread it around Europe’s ports. The original expression, “ch’ing ch’ing,” was an expression of gratitude, turned first into a form of greeting, then into an exclamation accompanying the clinking of glasses. For Italians, there’s never a wrong time to toast. During the holidays, birthdays, to celebrate a goal achieved, to greet a long-lost friend, but also simply during aperitivo, to mark the end of a long working day. And there’s no other wine in Italy more perfect for commencing festivities and toasts than a sparkling wine.
The Italian production of sparkling wine is one with a long tradition and high quality, and among the major contributors is undoubtedly Ferrari Trento, a family business founded in 1902; the Trentino winery was awarded “Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year” for the third time in 2019 at the famous “Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships.” It is therefore unsurprising that, for the fifth consecutive year, the Emmy Awards – the prestigious Oscars for Television hosted in Los Angeles last night – selected Ferrari bubbles for the official toasts and the grand gala dinner.
Guests were greeted with a Ferrari Brut Trentodoc (the gold medal sparkling wine at “The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship 2019”) and the bottles also used to construct spectacular towers at the entrance of the Microsoft Theatre, where the event took place. During the course of the evening, stars also toasted with two other important Trentodoc labels from the Winery: Ferrari Rosé, a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with an intriguing bouquet of berries, and Ferrari Perlé, a vintage Chardonnay with all the freshness of mountain grapes.
Also this year, Ferrari Trento has proposed a series of events dedicated to the Italian art of living, in a villa in the heart of Beverly Hills. Matteo Lunelli, the company’s president announced his pride and excitement in participating: “Once again we’ve brought a touch of the Italian to one of the most glamorous Hollywood events, celebrating the creativity and dynamism of the television industry with our Trentodoc sparkling wine.”
