Does the summer heat tend to wear you out? Well, we’ve got some good news! Making traditional Italian granita at home is not only easy, but it’s one of the best ways to hit the cool off button when you feel overheated! All that’s required is a little patience – because this recipe has to have the right consistency without freezing completely. But don’t worry, it’s super easy. The secret to a good granita is just a basic mixture of sugar and water to create a sort of syrup that you’ll then transfer to the freezer, stirring every half hour, for a delightfully creamy granita! And when it comes to flavors, there are infinite possibilities – especially since you’re making it at home. So let’s cool ourselves off a little, shall we?
1. Original and refined
For a truly original twist on the traditional granita, try making this recipe with savory flavors by starting with a cold bisque. Proceed as follows: Blend the bisque with a little vodka, shellfish and shrimp. Then filter out the liquid, transfer to the freezer and stir every half hour until ready to serve. A fresh and somewhat unusual aperitif that will surely amaze your guests!
2. Summery and colorful
During the summer, we simply can’t do without fresh, nutrient-rich tomatoes! Try making a tomato-based granita and serve it as an entrée or an appetizer. Also ideal served to guests as a palate cleanser in between courses! To make it, simply blend the tomato and filter out the tomato pieces so you’re left only with the liquid. No extra water is necessary. (Tomatoes naturally provide enough for the granita on their own.)
3. Healthy and refreshing
If you want to try a super refreshing granita, choose a mix of fresh herbs. Just clean, wash and dry them with paper towels. Then finely chop the herbs as much as possible, either with a knife or a blender, so that the flavor distributes properly throughout the granita mixture. Add some water, mix well and transfer to the freezer to cool, stirring every half hour until creamy and cold. Serve as a palate cleanser before dessert or as an added element to other desserts!
