Tom Colicchio Curates New Menus for New York’s Morgan Library & Museum

Built in 1906 to house the personal library of financier and collector J.P. Morgan, the elegant, Classical Revival-style mansion on the corner of Manhattan’s Madison Avenue and 36^th Street is now the Morgan Library & Museum, where the collection includes treasures from illuminated manuscripts and prints by Michelangelo and Raphael to the scraps of paper on which Bob Dylan wrote “Blowin’ in the Wind.” The mansion is also home to two dining venues—the Morgan Café and the Morgan Dining Room—which now feature some treasures of their own: new menus curated by James Beard Award-winning chef Tom Colicchio.

Introduced on November 19^th, the new menus mark the first-ever chef collaboration for The Morgan. For the occasion, Colicchio has created seasonal, modern American dishes for both the casual Morgan Café—which sits in a courtyard designed by Renzo Piano, and features a recently-launched espresso and wine bar—and the more refined Morgan Dining Room, set in what was once the Morgan family dining room.

The menus will change throughout the year, but on the Café side, you’ll currently find dishes like Caramelized Onion Dip paired with crispy chips and shallots; Chicken Paillard with delicate squash, pomegranate and hen of the wood mushrooms; and Sautéed Salmon accented by heirloom grains and beets. In the Dining Room, enjoy a two- or three-course prix fixe lunch of dishes like Ricotta Gnocchi made with honeynut squash, brown butter, and sage, Chatham Cod with Brussel sprouts, apples and bacon, and Buttermilk Panna Cotta with berries and mint.

The Dining Room also hosts weekend brunch, at which Colicchio is showcasing decadent choices like Lobster Omelettes and Brioche Donuts. In both spaces, Colicchio and his team have created beverages that tip their hats to literature and the arts—so you can sip on drinks like Tennessee Williams (Bourbon, Averna Amaro, Aperol, orange juice, and black walnut bitters),and Beatrix Potter (a mocktail with ginger beer, basil syrup, and lime.) Together, the drinks and cuisine create a dining experience that’s both accessible and inspiring—much like visiting the Morgan Library itself.
