Americans can start traveling to Italy again, but in the meantime, Italy is coming to New York City, thanks to Sant Ambroeus Gelateria. The iconic Italian restaurant, founded in Milan in 1936 and with locations in New York dating back almost 40 years (and including a new restaurant in lower Manhattan), has brought its signature cuisine and culture to a new downtown gelateria concept, complete with a coffee bar, pasticceria, and cioccolateria.
Located in New York City’s Soho neighborhood, the new Sant Ambroeus offers 16 or more flavors of gelato and sorbetto, all made on-premise, including vegan options. Guests will be able to enjoy an assortment of coppe—the Italian version of a sundae—selected by Culinary Director Iacopo Falai.
“Our gelateria is like uncovering a hidden gem, the sweet side of Sant Ambroeus,” explains manager Samuel Molina. “We are displaying the art of gelato by adding little details. Our customers love it because they feel like they’re in Italy.”

Coppa flavors include the “Milano” Crema featuring panettone gelato and Certosino liqueur gelato, the “Amalfi” with lemon and orange sorbet, and the “Paradiso,” which has Crema gelato, strawberries, English cream, freshly whipped cream, and shaved milk chocolate.
For an additional touch of glamour, the gelato comes in a china coppa especially designed by Ginori, while the Sant Ambroeus space draws inspiration from the old world classic Italian Gelateria.
“In Italy, there is no summer without enjoying a coppa gelato sitting at a table,” says executive pastry chef Cecilia Cattoni. “So our new concept is like traveling back to Italy. What’s special about Sant Ambroeus is that we make the difference by being Italians and we give our customers a dream.”
