New York City is seeing a boom in restaurant re-openings and the birth of new concepts. Among the latter group is Sogno Toscano Market & Wine Bar, which has just opened in the West Village.
Sogno Toscano began as a premium extra virgin olive oil company. Co-founders Brian Persico and Pietro Brembilla were living and working on Manhattan's Upper East Side, and both came from families with olive groves in Tuscany. The two went door-to-door selling olive oil and making private-label versions for restaurant clients. The business took off and evolved into a portfolio of more than 500 products today. Servicing home cooks and chefs, the company continues to provide its provisions to households and over 5,200 restaurants nationwide.

Among the company's offerings are Italian culinary essentials like pasta along with many unexpected items, such as Octopus salame and olive oil-enriched anti-aging cream. Perhaps the only thing missing from the company's lineup was a brick-and-mortar location where customers can shop for provisions and to stop and enjoy a glass of Italian wine or an espresso. Enter Sogno Toscano Market & Wine Bar.

Situated on the quaint corner of Perry Street and Waverly Place in New York City's West Village, Sogno Toscano Market & Wine Bar features big windows and a charming yet contemporary façade. Pass by a few tables where you can enjoy a panino al fresco and step into the shop, with its bounty of Italian provisions, including pasta, tomatoes, and of course olive oil. Just beyond the decorative mint green vintage Vespa are a wine and espresso bar.

The West Village has plenty of Italian restaurants, but a hybrid market, wine bar, and café is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Persico says that Sogno Toscano Market & Wine Bar is “a place where people can enjoy the best espresso with authentic Italian pastries in the morning. A place where people can enjoy an ambrosial focaccia sandwich or a rustic charcuterie board with wine. A place where people are welcomed with a free slice of the highest quality of Prosciutto, a piece of Tuscan pecorino aged underground for 6 months, a taste of a unique datterino giallo tomatoes, and much more with a staff eager to share the story and the application of each product without the pressure of the sale.”
