On Sunday, New York’s 56th governor, Andrew Cuomo, gave another televised speech from Albany and ended it with how to find a silver lining during quarantine.
In a rare twist, the governor shared a personal recommendation: spaghetti, meatballs, and sausage with family.
“Everybody talks about how the Italians love the food. That’s true,” he said. “But really they love bringing the family together, and the food was the way that people came together. “
The Governor Cuomo gushed about the family’s Sunday tradition, one he kept going, even after a divorce.

During childhood, they gathered at 2pm for a “marathon” feast with the grandparents and the same recipe. But as a single father, instead of cooking, he shopped at an Italian specialty store for the sauce, sausage and meatballs.
He never told his daughters he was not the cook– it would have “ruined the whole tradition.”
Cuomo said his family would gather later that day over Skype and the phone –something “a little different.” He hoped this example was one others could follow. “We’re here, we’re together, and we’re healthy. That’s 98% of it. So find ways to make a little joy.”
