Creamy, chocolatey and fried-dough-y don’t come to mind when imagining a pint of beer. But thanks to a recipe, authored by one of Boston’s top breweries and oldest Italian bakeries, the world can now enjoy a stout brewed with home-made cannoli.
After years of watching customers walk into the Harpoon beer hall with a box of desserts in hand, Harpoon decided to partner with Mike’s Pastry, a 70+-year-old bakery in the North End. They launched the 7% ABV beer at the end of February using crushed cannoli shells, cacao nibs, vanilla, and lactose. “We wanted to take the combo to a whole new level,” said Harpoon on the company website.
In a bow to community spirit, a portion of the beer sales will go towards Christmas in the City, a Boston charity. And while Mike’s cannoli will likely be sold for another seven decades, unfortunately, this canned beer will be available only for the month of March.
