Italy Run by Nutella Café 5M, has come to its 3rd edition and will take place on Sunday, May 31 in Central Park. The announcement of the 5 miles run, part of the New York Road Runners calendar, and a celebration of Festa della Repubblica (the Italian National Day), was made last Monday at an event at the Italian Consul General of Italy Residence in New York.
“It’s a very delicate moment internationally and it’s important to know that we are all friends and that we can count on each other,” said the Consul General Francesco Genuardi, that described the event as a day of friendship between Italy and New York.
The Commissioner of the New York City Department of Park and Recreation Mitchell Silver attended the event, along with the Commissioner of New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, Victor Calise.
“Last year the Consul asked me to run it with him, which I did, it was a great day,” said Commissioner Silver, noting that there is no intention of canceling the event amid the coronavirus scare. “We are watching everything very carefully, working very closely with Road Runners to ensure that everybody stays calm”.
Like previous editions, the event is expected to sell out by the beginning of April. The post-race festival will include activities and food from Nutella Café and its partners. Proceeds of the race will be devolved to San Patrignano, a community that supports people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction in Italy.
