- 1 LB. of flour
- 11 OZ. of milk
- 3 OZ. of butter
- 1 OZ. of sugar
- 1/2 OZ. of fresh brewer's yeast
- 1/2 of salt
- 1 of egg

To make braided Italian bread, start by kneading the flour with the sugar and yeast dissolved in lukewarm milk. Then add the chopped butter and salt. Continue kneading the dough for about 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough into a floured bowl and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let rise for 1 ½ hours. Divide the dough into three or four sections (or strands) and braid them together to shape the bread. Cut off the ends (even if they’re uneven), and place on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment. Brush with a beaten egg and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
Cook the braided dough in a static oven at 350°F for about 40 minutes.
