Generally speaking, white meat is not exactly synonymous with tasty dishes. Chicken breast is usually a meal for kids, dieters, and people sick in bed, right? Wrong! Chicken breast, when cooked the right way, can become a true delicacy – even with the simplest of ideas.
There are really so many ways to make a slice of chicken appetizing. You just need to be a little imaginative, that’s all! Instead of grilling it on a skillet with garlic and rosemary, why not try some of our ideas to enhance the flavor and change your views on chicken forever?
We recommend buying a whole chicken breast that you’ll cut into thin slices with a very sharp knife. How? Simply place your left hand on the meat and slice with your right hand by passing the smooth, sharp blade of a knife for less than an inch under your hand that’s holding the meat. If you’re not so skilled in slicing, though, just make strips of meat or cubes for skewers.
So – without further ado, we have a few marinade ideas and some tasty accompaniment ideas to spice things up a little! And then you could always bread the chicken for a tasty texture and a resulting juicy, tender meat.
Lemon marinade
Did you know that a simple marinade made with oil and lemon can make chicken meat tastier? Try marinating a sliced chicken breast (or cut into strips) in oil and lemon juice. Add a clove of garlic and a piece of onion if desired and cover with plastic wrap. After an hour or so, drain the meat well and cook on a non-stick pan.
Honey marinade
This recipe is also generally loved by the kids because it has a slightly sweet and sour taste. Make it by mixing a tablespoon of honey with two tablespoons of oil and a little chopped garlic. Let the chicken soak in the marinade (even better if it’s diced) for two hours and then cook it in a pan. No need for other ingredients!
Soy marinade
This marinade gives the chicken an Asian flavor kick! To make it, mix one tablespoon of soy sauce with one tablespoon of honey and the juice of ½ lemon. Let the meat marinate in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and then cook it on a hot non-stick pan.
Breaded with nuts
A very unusual alternative to classic breadcrumbs is a mixture made from nuts. Coarsely chop almonds or hazelnuts and cover the chicken slices after passing them for a moment in beaten egg whites. Then you can decide to cook them in the oven with a drizzle of oil or fry them.
Breaded with cornflakes
This idea drives the kids crazy because the chicken breast is fried until crispy and golden. Just pass the slices in a small bowl of beaten egg and then bread them with cornflakes (that you’ve previously crumbled with your hands). You can also bake this version or fry it – that’s up to you! The ideal sauce? Ketchup, of course!
Breaded with fresh herbs
If you are faithful to the classic breadcrumb breading, then make it tastier by adding a chopped mixture of herbs such as rosemary, sage, marjoram, and thyme. Don’t fry it, but bake the chicken in the oven – because the herbs will taste bitter if you fry them!
Chicken salad
A classic chicken salad can be made simply with lettuce and a grilled sliced chicken breast. This salad is excellently dressed with parmesan flakes, crispy bread croutons, and yogurt dressing.
Sauce ideas
If your diet doesn’t allow for it and you really need to limit the sauces, treat yourself to a light accompaniment with your grilled chicken breast. We recommend guacamole or pesto made from sundried tomatoes. Make the guacamole by crushing the pulp of an avocado with a fork. Season it with salt, lime juice, tabasco, chopped onion, and diced tomatoes. To make the sundried tomato pesto, just chop the sundried tomatoes in oil with a clove of garlic and a handful of almonds. Blend for a smooth consistency (or leave as is).
